Fundraiser to secure west Mayo care facility's future

A WEST Mayo care facility has launched a fundraising drive to secure its future at the heart of the community.

St. Brendan's Village is a combination of low, medium and high support residential care units based in Mulranny.

It faces a threat of closure, as explained in an online fundraising page where for a €10 donation you could win flights to New York.

Mulranny Day Centre Housing CLG, a registered charity, is organising the fundraiser on GoFundMe (https://gofund.me/10fc54d9).

The page sets out the difficulties being faced at Saint Brendan’s Village, which has been at the heart of the community in Mulranny since it opened 25 years ago.

It explained: 'This charity has been supporting the older population and people with disabilities, enabling them to stay locally for the past 25 years. We do this by providing accommodation in St. Brendan’s Sheltered Housing and the St. Brendan's High Support Unit. This means that no one from the Clew Bay and Erris area need have to leave the locality to be looked after, no matter what their disability or healthcare needs.

'However, the obvious challenges, and updated requirements for residential homes since the Covid-19 pandemic, has brought many challenges to Saint Brendan’s Village and we are currently facing a real risk of closure.

'The closure of Saint Brendan’s Village would not only be devastating to our residents, their families and our staff members but also, without doubt, the wider community for many generations to come.'

As a thank you to all who donate, one lucky donor will win flights for two to New York. Every €10 you donate gets you an entry.
