Gaelteanga offers free Irish language classes to learners in Mayo

Gaelteanga, an online education company, is extending a helping hand to those eager to embark on a journey into the Irish language. They are offering free one-hour taster classes designed to kick-start the learning process.

These complimentary classes, available at six distinct fluency levels, will be conducted from September 11 to September 19.

Gaelteanga's hope is that these sessions will inspire learners, particularly those who may have been hesitant in the past, to dive into the Irish language.

The hallmark of these classes is their emphasis on spoken Irish, encouraging participants to use the language immediately. The teaching approach is modern and interactive, with ample opportunities for learners to practice through pair work and group activities. The goal is to make learning Irish an enjoyable and rewarding experience rather than a tedious chore.

Éamonn Ó Dónaill, Gaelteanga's founder and Director of Education, is a prominent figure in the development of Irish-language teaching materials for adults. With a teaching career spanning back to 1981, he has also lent his expertise as a language consultant to various RTÉ and BBC language-teaching series. He is the author of several best-selling books for learners, including "Now You’re Talking" and "Turas Teanga."

Beyond these taster classes, Gaelteanga's autumn program, commencing on the week of September 25, will cater to learners of all competency levels, from beginners with just a smattering of Irish to those who possess a solid fluency.

Following the success of their "Couch to Comhrá in 6 Weeks" initiative, Gaelteanga hopes that many participants will continue their language journey by enrolling in online classes this autumn.

For those interested in taking the first step towards learning the Irish language, registration for these free taster classes is currently open on Gaelteanga's website.
