Mayo players on 2023/24 underage high performance and performance development golf panels

The Golf Ireland underage high performance and performance development coaching panels for 2023/24 have been selected – and a Mayo sports star is among them.

Ballyhaunis sensation John William Burke has been selected in the Under 16 high performance group – a great achievement but unsurprising at the same time given his prowess around the fairways for a number of years now.

In the Under 16 high performance group with John William are: Eoin Burrows (Belvoir Park), Niall Conneely (Ballinasloe), Adam Fahey (Portmarnock), Harris Fleming (Galgorm Castle), Jack McKenna (Co. Louth), John Moran (Portmarnock), Harry O'Hara (Clandeboye), Isaac Oliver (Ballinasloe) and William Walshe (Delgany).

Meanwhile, European Junior Ryder Cup bolter Sean Keeling (Roganstown) will look to have another outstanding year as part of the Under 18 boys panel, while R&A Boys’ Amateur leading qualifier Jack Murphy (Douglas) and Donnacha Cleary (Tipperary), who also had an extended run at Ganton, will want to progress further as part of the 11-strong set-up in 2024.

Olivia Costello (Roscommon) made her second appearance at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open after a special season, and she has been selected as part of the Under 18 girls high performance squad.

Marina Joyce Moreno (Llavaneras), Anna Abom (Edmondstown), Kate Dillon (Oughterard) and Ellen O’Shaughnessy (Co. Louth) are among those who will also hope to build on their impressive showings this summer.

The Under 18 boys high performance is as follows: Mark Cadden (Roganstown), Donnacha Cleary (Tipperary), Fionn Dobbin (Malone), John Doyle (Fota Island), Finlay Eager (Royal Belfast), Mark Gazi (Tralee), Sean Keeling (Roganstown), Evan Monaghan (Tullamore), Jack Murphy (Douglas), Gordon Sillett (Ballykisteen), Charlie Smyth (Slieve Russell).

In the Under 18 girls high performance group are: Anna Abom (Edmondstown), Molly Campbell (Hollinwell), Olivia Costello (Roscommon), Kate Dillon (Oughterard), Holly Hamilton (Belvoir Park), Marina Joyce Moreno (Llavaneras), Hannah Lee-McNamara (Royal Portrush), Maebh McLoughlin (Co. Sligo), Gemma McMeekin (Royal Portrush), Caoimhe O’Grady (Royal Dublin), Niamh O’Grady (Royal Dublin), Ellen O’Shaughnessy (Co. Louth), Roisin Scanlon (Woburn).

The performance development panels have been selected on a regional basis, with a number of Mayo golfers making the cut here too.

On the Under 17 boys panel is Owen Kelly (Castlebar), with Charlie Brown (Westport) selected on the Under 17 girls panel and Max Humphreys (Ballinrobe) making the Under 15 boys panel.
