Significant drop in Bord Faílte accommodation in Mayo revealed

Faílte Ireland accommodation in Mayo has dropped by 21% since 2021.

That figure is significantly higher than the national average of 13%.

The statistic was furnished to Westport Councillor Peter Flynn when he sought information for the tourism agency on the impact of the refugee situation in Mayo compared to the rest of the country.

He stated: "When you factor in the significant amount of non-registered Failte Ireland locations in Mayo, I estimate that close to 30% of our tourist beds have been decommissioned.

"It is no wonder down stream businesses are shutting down and that more will follow.

"The silence from most of our TDs and senators of all parties on this county crisis is deafening," he added.
