Allergan seeking go-ahead for Mayo plant expansion

Allergan Pharmaceuticals Limited has lodged a planning applications for a significant expansion of its AbbVie facility at Carrowbeg, Westport.

The project includes a 1,270 square-metre extension to roof level of its plant-room.

The main entrance on the Carrowbeg Road is to be resigned with alterations to roads, kerbs, footpaths, fences and boundary wall with new signage put in place.

There will be a new turnstile entrance for pedestrians and other ancillary works, including a change to the colour scheme of the existing facades.

The site activity is subject to an integrated pollution prevention and control licence.

The application also consists of the retention of an existing one-story modular office and other buildings.

AbbVie is one of the west of Ireland's leading employers.

It is involved in markedly improving treatment across a number of therapeutic areas, including immunology, oncology, virology, aesthetics, neuroscience and eye care.

A decision on the application is expected to be reached within the coming months.
