Christmas magic is coming to Mayo
Exciting news has emerged of a new event being planned this December to bring some Christmas magic to Castlebar.
Christmas Magic At The Barracks is created by four local groups that have banded together in the hopes of raising some vital funds as well as bringing some Christmas cheer to the children of Castlebar.
This brand new event has the support of First Choice Credit Union as main sponsor along with support of some other local businesses and has the full backing of Mayo County Council.
Based in Block A of the old Military Barracks, volunteers will use all their Christmas magic to convert the old building into a magical experience not seen in Castlebar before.
And hopefully bring lots of Christmas joy to young and the young at heart.
As well as supporting Castlebar Celtic Football Club, St Joseph’s Secondary School and Castlebar Foroige, this event will donate to An Feileacain, a non-profit association that works closely with families who have been affected by the death of a baby during pregnancy or shortly after birth, providing essential support.
The event will take place on Saturday and Sunday, December 2 and 3, and tickets will be on sale shortly through Ticketmaster, the link to which will be available shortly through the Christmas At The Barracks Facebook and Instagram pages.
As Castlebar is an Autism friendly town, there will be a time slot available on both days to facilitate any autistic children with light and sound sensitivities.
Unfortunately, given the age and structure of the building, it is not wheelchair friendly.

Come along and see how the old building is transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland.
Enjoy a hot chocolate with a team of elves before taking a walk through the Frosty Forrest and post your letter to Santa.
Join us in the workshops making decorations, painting and other crafts.
Relax in Mrs. Clause’s cosy sitting room and enjoy story time and listening to her lovely choir singing Christmas Carols all to get you in the Christmas mood.
Then meet the big man himself in his grotto and get a photo as a memento of the occasion - and of course a gift too (for young and old!)
Some other surprises are yet to be announced subject to availability but be assured those involved are determined to make this a Christmas event to remember and hopefully to become an annual one.
