Mayo county town mourns passing of William Wijers

The death has taken place of Paulus Willem (William) Wijers, Boradruma, Castlebar.

In his 96th year, he died peacefully at Abbey Breaffy Nursing Home yesterday.

His warm and affable personality endeared him to everybody with whom he came into contact and his passing is widely mourned in the community.

Predeceased in 1991 by his wife Maaike (Martha), he is deeply regretted by his son Henk (Boradruma), daughter Susanna Sweeney (Boradruma), daughter-in-law Hanneke, son-in-law Ernie, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

A native of Haarlem, The Netherlands, William was an upholsterer by trade.

He moved to Ireland with his family in July 1975 and was involved in the establishment of the former Boradruma Upholstery business at Snugboro, Castlebar, which operated successfully for many years.

William enjoyed indoor bowling and he played regularly at Mayo Roller Bowl, Castlebar, with his friends, whom will greatly miss him.

His remains will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Sunday from 5.30 to 7 p.m.

Funeral Service will be celebrated at Christ Church, Castlebar, on Monday at 10 a.m.

Interment takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
