Westport claims regional award in National Tidy Towns Awards

Westport has won a prestgious regional award at the National Tidy Towns Awards today.

The town claimed the accolade for the cleanest town in west and north west region with a score of 374 points.

Belmullet secured one of the Gaeltacht awards with a prize of €1,500.

The north Mayo town also won a distinction in the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan category as one of the best small towns.

Ballyhaunis lifted a regional award worth €1,000 in the Water and Communities category while the Ripple Project Team, on behalf of Greenhills Biodiversity Group and Residents Association, Ballina, was highly commended in that section and won a prize of €500.

Castlebar retained its gold medal as the cleanest large town in Mayo while Mulranny secured gold in its category.
