Significant housing boost for Mayo town
Minister of State Dara Calleary has announced that government approval has been given to Mayo County Council to proceed with the construction of 66 new homes at Killala Road in the town.
He stated: "I am delighted that my colleague Minister Darragh O'Brien has given approval to proceed with this project.
"The 66 homes will be a mix of 3 bed houses, 2 bed houses and apartments and will be targeted at a number of different groups including those on council lists in Ballina, the elderly and people with disabilities.
"The proposed project will be located on the site of the former Cheshire Home on the Killala Road and it will now proceed to planning and the local community will have a chance to give their input during this period.
"Mayo County Council are to be commended for this proposal.
"My colleague Councillor Annie Mai Reape has constantly championed the need for greater housing delivery in the town and has lobbied hard for such investment.
"This project, along with the recently completed 50 home development on the Foxford Road, represents serious investment in housing in Ballina by this government through our Housing for All plan.
"However we have more to do and I will continue to deliver this kind of investment in Ballina and across Mayo.
"I am also actively pursuing the department to support the development of affordable purchase homes in the town,” he added.
