THE urgent need for substantial funding to be approved to Castlebar Order of Malta for a new headquarters has been raised in the Dáil by Deputy Michael Ring.

Deputy Ring has also contacted Minister Heather Humphreys about the matter.

He set out the 'tremendous work' the unit do, saying: “They provide a marvellous service to the locality. They are an invaluable asset to the county town. They are hard-working volunteers who strive at all times to serve their area.

“Castlebar Order of Malta carry out a lot of patient transfers to hospitals. They provide a wonderful and reassuring service to people at a very difficult time.”

Continued Deputy Ring: “Castlebar Order of Malta have been seeking funding for a new headquarters for the past number of years. They urgently require a new base.
