Large contingent of Mayo dairy farmers expected at ICMSA meeting

THE traditionally large Mayo contingent will be expected to travel to the Limerick Radisson on Friday, November 17, for the annual general meeting of the specialist dairy farmer organisation, ICMSA.

The association has a large and engaged membership all over the country, but the success of Ballyvary’s John Comer in the role of president just previous to the present incumbent highlighted the contribution of Mayo milk producers to the association.

That heritage should ensure that local members will turnout for a line-up of speakers that begins with Minister Charlie McConalogue, ICMSA president Pat McCormack, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, and ending with Minister Eamon Ryan - a controversial figure for farmers and one who has been the recipient of sustained criticism from ICMSA.

In what has been an extremely challenging year for Ireland’s critical dairy sector and one that was, according to ICMSA, most certainly not helped by government policy, it’s probable that the problems in and around milk production will dominate.

There is an upper limit on the number who can attend and those Mayo members intending to travel for the AGM and stay for the dinner that traditionally ends the day must contact ICMSA at (061) 314677 or info@icmsa.ie and confirm if they are not to miss out.
