Fianna Fáil convention to select candidates for Mayo municipal district

The stage is set for a significant political event as the Fianna Fáil Convention prepares to select its team for the upcoming 2024 Local Elections in the Claremorris Electoral Area.

The convention is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 27, at 8:30 p.m. in the Ballyhaunis Community Hall.

Two prominent figures have emerged as nominees to contest the election, incumbent Councillor Damien Ryan and newcomer Ballyhaunis-based businessman Stephen Nolan.

Both candidates are expected to be formally ratified during Monday's convention, solidifying their positions as Fianna Fáil's choices to vie for representation in the Claremorris Electoral Area.

The presence of sitting Councillor Damien Ryan adds an element of experience to the field, while businessman Stephen Nolan brings a different perspective rooted in the local business community as a publican.

In 2019, the Claremorris electoral area saw three Fine Gael councillors elected out of a possible six.
