Tributes to popular Mayo man Tom Burke on his passing

The death has taken place of Tom Burke, Pine Grove, Mountbellew, Co. Galway.

A native of Ballyglass, Claremorris, Tom died peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff in the Galway Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.

A son of the late Marie and Patrick Burke, Gradogue, Ballyglass, Claremorris, he is mourned by his loving wife Dorothy and stepchildren Deirdre, Michael, Éilis, Derry, Siobhán and Patrick, sons-in-law Gerard and Brian, daughters-in-law Linda and Sarah, adored grandchildren Leah, Mollie, Anna, Mya, Derry, Ella, Samuel, Lana and Stephen.

He is also survived by his sister Majella (Pat) and brothers Senator Paddy (Dolores), Seamus (Patsy), Michael (Susan), Noel (Bridie) and Councillor Cyril (Ann), nieces and nephews along with relatives, neighbours and many many friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Many warm tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.

One stated: "Tom will be remembered by all past pupils of Mountbellew Agricultural College as the guide who sent people on the right path for life and created lifelong friendships that stemmed from the fondest memories of his company."

Another said: "He was a lovely gentleman who left a great impression on all who encountered him during his life and especially the students of Mountbellew Agricultural College."

A further tribute stated: "He was a true gentleman, talented, kind, good humoured and always showed great interest in everyone he met."

His remains will be reposing at the Franciscan College Oratory, Mountbellew (H53 WE00) today (Sunday) from 2 until 8 p.m.

Tom's funeral cortège will leave his home on Monday for Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Mountbellew, at 12.30 p.m. with burial afterwards in New Cemetery, Mountbellew.
