Former Mayo GAA star backing FF candidate in local election bid
The Fianna Fail party in the Claremorris electoral area has selected outgoing Ballinrone Councillor Damian Ryan and Ballyhaunis businessman Stephen Nolan to run for the party in next year's local elections.
There was a big gathering at the convention and the two nominees were selected unopposed.
Welcoming the news, Minister of State Dara Calleary said he and Senator Lisa Chambers look forward to continuing to work with them both in delivering to the communities across the constituency.
The convention was attended by former Mayo GAA star Keith Higgins, a strong supporter of Stephen Nolan.
There are six seats on offer in the Claremorris Municipal District and the town of Ballyhaunis is determined hold onto one following the retirement of long-serving Fine Gael Councillor John Cribbin.
Alma Gallagher has been chosen by Fine Gael to replace him on the ticket.
