Taking in charge of south Mayo estate approved

THE taking in charge of roads and footpaths at the Cill Ó Séighin housing estate in Ballinrobe has been approved by local councillors.

It involves a distance of 807m from its junction with the N84, heading north/east.

Local councillors Michael Burke, Patsy O'Brien and Damien Ryan welcomed the initiative, saying this has been an issue for more than 10 years now.

Tribute was paid to area engineer Kenneth Morley for organising the works that have allowed the taking in charge to proceed.

FOOTBRIDGE PROJECT UPDATE

In other local works, it is hoped to see construction on a footbridge on the Kilmaine Road in Ballinrobe commencing in 2025.

The issue was raised by Councillor Michael Burke who cited the risk to pedestrians at the Railway Inn when two vehicles are meeting.

He asked that the footbridge be treated as a matter of urgency.

Councillor Burke was told this and another project in Ballyhaunis are on a list of projects for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

They have gone to tender for consultants and when appointed they will be working through their design, with probable construction in 2025.
