Gardaí prepared for any public disorder situations in Mayo

GARDAÍ in Mayo are prepared to deal with any public disorder issues that may arise in the county.

Chief Superintendent Raymond Mahon confirmed their readiness to Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh who asked the question at a Mayo Joint Policing Committee meeting in light of recent incidents in Dublin.

She also questioned what impact the activity in Dublin had on garda resources in Mayo, with members going to the capital to deal with issues there.

“How prepared are we in this county for similar criminal activity?” she asked.

Chief Supt. Mahon said we have a fully trained and equipped public order unit, with training having taken place in recent weeks and months around policing protests.

On the Dublin situation, members from Mayo were on duty in Dublin on the Friday and Saturday nights on overtime, not taking from resources here in the county.

There is capacity within the county, he confirmed, to respond to all situations.
