Call for immediate action to address safety on east Mayo bypass

AN east Mayo councillor has demanded immediate action to address road safety on the N5 Swinford bypass after another accident this morning.

The collision occurred at the Applegreen junction, with emergency services attending the scene.

Councillor Adrian Forkan has called for immediate safety works at the Kiltimagh road junction, which is a notorious accident location.

He also wants to see upgrade works along all junctions on the entire five-kilometre stretch fast-tracked.

Councillor Forkan has raised his concerns at a number of council meetings recently, the bypass having 13 junctions and numerous fatalities have occurred over the years.

It can't be a long-term plan, he said. Immediate action is what is needed.
