Facefield 5k supports Mayo Roscommon Hospice
THE 'Remember Me' Facefield 5k walk/run raised €1,520 for Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
Held in Facefield on a very wet and windy day, Deputy Michael Ring laid a wreath in memory of all the people who have died in the area over the recent past. The wreath was beautifully crafted by local lady Eileen Murphy.
There was the sounding of the Last Post, with a colour party drawn from members of D Coy 6th Battalion, Athlone, before the brave souls took off on the scenic 5k route, assisted by the bagpipes of Sheila Duggan.
Due to inclement weather, Santa had to make alternative travel arrangements, arriving at the local school in James Jordan's 35 Massey Ferguson tractor to be greeted by a large number of local children.
The Facefield community groups would like to thank all who sponsored items for the raffle, the stewards, timekeepers, ticket sellers, catering people, and all who donated money and bought tickets to support Mayo Roscommon Hospice. Special thanks to the Mallee family who over the past three years have been a major force in supporting the event.
Special thanks to Councillor Tom Connolly and Councillor Donna Sheridan who attended on the day. A special mention also to Joe Brett who drove the lead safety car and to Martin Mahon who provided the PA system and music. Thanks also to photographers Michael Brophy and Colette Regan and the board of management of Facefield National School.
A total of €1,520 was raised from the event and was presented to Martina Jennings, CEO of Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, at the annual Christmas nativity play in Facefield National School.
