Mayo school celebrates six awards at BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition

A MAYO school is celebrating winning six awards at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (BTYSTE).

In total, seven awards returned to the county – six won by Mount St. Michael Secondary School in Claremorris and the other award by a student from St. Joseph's Secondary School.

The award wins and project titles were as follows.

Health and Wellbeing Educator of Excellence Award: teacher Stephanie Hogan, Mount. St. Michael.

The Jack Restan Displays Award (technology): Revolutionising human flight - The Pursuit of Human Wings with reengineered ornithopter, by Cassandra G. Blitger, Mount St. Michael.

The Health Research Board Award (health and wellbeing): Enhancing Inhaler Technique Proficiency and Adherence in Pediatric Asthma Patients through Machine Learning-Based Intervention - A Comprehensive Study of Misuse Patterns and Technological Solutions, by Aoibheann Mangan, Mount St. Michael.

Aoibheann also won the 1st Senior Individual category award for her project.

3rd Junior Individual Health and Wellbeing category award: Volatile Organic Compounds and their impact on our everyday lives, by Beth Scully, St. Joseph’s Secondary School.

2nd Intermediate Individual Health and Wellbeing category award: Safety in Your Hands: A mobile application integrating location-based equipment discovery and comprehensive first aid education to enhance overall emergency response outcomes, by Mary Lilibeth Curry Glynn, Mount St. Michael.

Highly commended was the Mount St. Michael project BREATHE: Nurturing Adolescent Mental Wellness – A Tech Solution to Reduce Stress and Anxiety Among Teens, by Meta Alisauskaite, Leen jomaa and Vanesa Liepa-Samoška.

The exhibition continues today in Dublin.
