Potholes cause highest number of public liability claims against Mayo authority

A total of 90 public liability claims were made against Mayo County Council last year.

Of that number, 61 cases were in respect of issues caused by potholes.

Up to 29 of those cases were made in the Claremorris/Swinford Municipal District alone.

Sixteen were in the Westport/Belmullet district, 10 in the Castlebar district and six in Ballina.

There were 27 claims in relation to slips, trips or falls.

The breakdown per district is Castlebar (11), Westport/Belmullet (7), Ballina (5) and Claremorris/Swinford (4)

The two remaining cases concerned road traffic accidents, both of which occurred in the Westport/Belmullet area.

The information was furnished to Councillor Christy Hyland on foot of a request.
