Wonderful weekend of music in store as Mayo's Ceol an Gheimhridh returns

A WONDERFUL weekend of music is happening in Swinford this weekend.

Mayo CCE county board have decided to revive Ceol an Gheimhridh and Michael Davitt CCE in Swinford volunteered to host the competitions on Saturday, January 20.

The competitions will be held in Swinford NS (thanks to principal Mr. Adrian Cregg and staff for their support). Competitions (confined this year to Under 11s and Under 14s) have been entered by over 150 children from all over Mayo and it is hoped that people will come out to support all the wonderful young musicians, singers, dancers and those telling stories or reciting poems.

Everyone is welcome to attend the competitions. A €5 entrance fee covers all competitions for the day and competitions begin at 10 a.m.

A great weekend of sessions for all age groups has been planned, starting with a Seisiún na nÓg in The White House on Friday evening from 6.30 p.m. followed by the official opening there at 8 p.m.

A lovely Cupán agus Comhra event will take place from 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Padraig Horkan's where there will be go leor caint, amhranaíocht agus ceol...not to mention Hillary's famous ham sandwiches and O'Hara's buns!

The session in Boland's on Saturday evening begins at 7 p.m., with a great blast of music there.

The usual Sunday session with Rob and friends will be happening in Padraig Horkan's - always a great session.

The branch youth officer and assistant youth officers Seán, Ríona and Martin and all the committee in Swinford have been working hard to make the first year of the revived Ceol an Gheimhridh a resounding success. A shout out to all the senior musicians who help out in all branch activities and in particular who come along and support and encourage the young people.
