East Mayo mourning death of businessman Pat Doyle
THE community of east Mayo is mourning the death of Swinford businessman Pat Doyle.
Pat and his family have been at the heart of business life on the town's main street for many years through their Tower Hardware operation.
A welcoming and helpful figure, Pat always had time for a chat with customers and he enjoyed the banter around bargaining. He was a gentleman in all his dealings and the family business thrived under his guidance.
He was a great community man, giving of his time and talent to various groups and projects.
Sport was also a big part of his life and he was a staunch supporter of Mayo and Swinford GAA.
One online tribute on rip.ie recalled: 'Pat was one of life's gentlemen, always made time for a chat and enquire how everyone was.'
Said another: 'Happy memories of working with Pat in Henry’s shop in Market Street in the late '50s. Played football with him too as a young man. A true gentleman liked by everyone.
'May Our Lady of Knock take him into her arms for all his years as steward in Knock.'
Pat, from Cloonfinaune in Swinford, passed unexpectedly but peacefully.
He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary, his parents Jack and Mary and brother Tony.
He will be sadly missed by daughter Orla, sons Brendan, Kevin and Liam, daughters-in-law Denise and Shónagh, adored grandchildren Seán, Grace, Jack and Páidí, brother John, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends to whom sympathy is extended.
Pat will be reposing at Campbell's Funeral Home, Swinford, on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday at 12 noon in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, Swinford, prior to burial in Kilconduff Cemetery.
