Mayo native commits to Dundalk for 12th season

Dundalk FC stalwart, John Mountney, has inked a deal for his twelfth season, signalling a remarkable dedication to the Lilywhites.

Despite a challenging previous year marked by an ACL injury, the Bohola publican has been actively engaged in squad training over the festive period, demonstrating a commitment to return to top form after a spell on the sidelines.

Manager Stephen O'Donnell lauded Mountney's resilience, noting his pivotal role in uplifting team standards both on and off the pitch. The five-time league winner's positive influence is expected to be a driving force for Dundalk in the upcoming season.

Although Mountney, along with Sam Durrant and Dara Keane, missed out on Thursday's friendly against Longford Town due to minor injuries, O'Donnell assured Lillywhite fans that these setbacks are not severe, with the trio anticipated to be available for forthcoming matches.

Dundalk F.C. face the additional challenge of appointing a new captain following Patrick Hoban's departure to Derry City. While O'Donnell revealed that a decision is pending, he expressed optimism about forming a leadership group, with Mountney playing a pivotal role due to his extensive experience and deep connection to the club.

Living in the town and having witnessed Dundalk's journey from 2012 struggles to recent triumphs, Mountney's unique perspective is deemed invaluable by O'Donnell. As the new season beckons, all eyes will be on Mountney as Dundalk strives for continued success in the league.
