European report supports Mayo’s defective block victims

Irish Independent MEP welcomed the report from the European petitions committee which calls on the Irish government to push ahead with a national inquiry to investigate the Mica/Pyrite defective block crisis.

Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan said that the outcome of the report has made him less sceptical on European affairs and more “sceptical about my own country.”

The report comes after European MEP's visited impacted mica homeowners in Donegal and throughout the west of Ireland, it is estimated 7,000 homes are affected in the country.

The draft report finds that a national inquiry is important to find out why it happened and figure out who was responsible for it. Flanagan states this is crucial “for the taxpayers of Ireland, who will ultimately have to foot the bill, which includes the homeowners” of crumbling houses.
