Second staging of Adam Mulchrone Memorial Match in Mayo this weekend

The second staging of the Adam Mulchrone Memorial Match in aid of ACT for Meningitis will be held in Westport on Saturday next (January 27) at 2 p.m. when Sligo Rovers meet Galway United at United Park.

Both teams are busy preparing for the new League of Ireland season and they are bringing their full squads to United Park for the occasion.

Galway are back in the Premier Division after a number of years in the lower tier and they have added significantly to their squad over the close season. Intriguingly, one of their main acquisitions, Gary Buckley, spent the last couple of seasons in The Showgrounds in Sligo.

John Russell, the Sligo manager, spent the formative part of his managerial career with Westport United so he is looking forward to the occasion.

“Westport United is a great club and it's always lovely to go back there,” he said. “It's great too for us to be able to mark the memory of Adam Mulchrone. I knew Adam when I was with United and he was a very special young man.”

The two teams will be treating the game very seriously as the start of the new season draws nearer. All funds raised will go towards the west of Ireland-based charity ACT for Meningitis. Supporters are asked to make a donation on the gate instead of an admission fee. ACT for Meningitis also has an iDonate page that can be accessed through actformeningitis.ie.
