Prendergasts is closing after 70 years in business...but fashion retailer Born is set to open there and in the adjoining premises.

Fashion retailer Born to open new Mayo outlet

FASHION retailer Born is set to open an outlet on Castlebar's Main Street.

It will replace the long-established Prendergast's Men's and Boys Wear, which will close its doors in the coming weeks.

Councillor Cyril Burke revealed the news at this afternoon's Castlebar Municipal District meeting.

He paid tribute to the Prendergast family who, after 70 years, are finishing operations on Main Street in the coming days.

A new retail operation - Born - would be setting up in its place, he said, and he wished them well.

“It's very good to see them coming to Castlebar, increasing the offering on Main Street,” Councillor Burke commented.

It is understood that the company will also be taking over the adjoining former National Irish Bank property.

Born operate a number of outlets around Ireland, with a reputation for stocking a wide range of brands at affordable prices for both women and men.
