Water supply restored in north Mayo town

Water supply has been restored to all customers in Ballina following a water main burst in the town centre.

Crews continue to carry out reinstatement works on Pearse Street this evening and regular access will be restored shortly.

Uisce Éireann’s Colette Scahill thanked the local community for their understanding as crews worked throughout the day to restore supply.

“We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage, and we thank customers for their support. Unfortunately, two bursts of the ageing pipes occurred on Pearse Street within hours of each other.

“These old pipes have been creating disruption for local homes and businesses in recent times and customers will be happy to hear that under the National Leakage Reduction Programme, Uisce Éireann has begun replacing more than 1.3km of old pipes in the town centre.

“The works are being carried out in phases along Pearse Street, Lower Pearse Street, Humbert Street, Dillon Terrace, Pawn Office Lane and Emmet Street. Within months residents and businesspeople in Ballina will see first-hand the benefits of these works. These new pipes will reduce high levels of leakage, reduce outages and improve water quality.”
