Redevelopment of old west Mayo convent ready to go to tender

PLANS for the redevelopment of the old convent in Westport are nearly ready to go to tender.

A new library, civic offices and community hub are to be located there, with separate plans for an affordable housing scheme at the site.

A detailed update was issued to councillors at their monthly district meeting where Councillor Peter Flynn welcomed that the expected tender publication date is the end of February.

He did question the rise in construction costs since €9 million was announced for the project in 2021.

Discussions have taken place with the department and they are aware of the costs rise and are very supportive of the project, he was told.
