An Argentine club is making waves for its historical homage it pays to a Foxford-born maritime legend.

Guillermo Brown de Puerto Madryn, an Argentine soccer club, has unveiled a striking new jersey that pays tribute to Admiral William Brown, a Mayo native who played a crucial role in Argentina's naval history.

Admiral William Brown, born in Foxford, County Mayo, Ireland, in 1777, went on to become a key figure in the early years of the Argentine Navy. His contributions to the country's maritime success have earned him the nickname "Father of the Argentine Navy." Brown played a pivotal role in securing Argentine independence, and his legacy continues to be celebrated in various forms throughout the country.

Guillermo Brown de Puerto Madryn, not to be confused with Club Almirante Brown, who competes in the same division, has taken the opportunity to honour Admiral Brown's heritage in a unique and visually striking way. The club has introduced a special Ireland-inspired jersey, reflecting the Admiral's Irish roots and his significant impact on Argentina.

The jersey features symbolic elements, with a prominent harp in the bottom corner, representing Ireland's rich cultural history. The green and white colour scheme pays homage to the Irish flag, creating a visually captivating blend of Argentina's soccer passion and Ireland's historical legacy.
