Mayo Camogie announces appointment of new senior team manager

Mayo Camogie has confirmed the appointment of a new manager for their senior team.

Colum O’Meara, a native of Killimor and now living in Cappataggle, Co. Galway, has been officially appointed to the position. He was ratified at a Mayo Camogie County Board meeting on Thursday night.

It's a hugely positive move for Mayo Camogie, who just two weeks ago had warned that if they couldn’t appoint a manager they would have to withdraw from the upcoming league campaign and this summer’s All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championship.

Mayo’s opening league game is due to be played on February 24 against Tyrone.

Over the past three years, Mayo have enjoyed huge success with their senior side, capturing the Nancy Murray Cup and a Division 4 league title, and they were runners-up in last year’s Nancy Murray Cup final, all of which has led them to competing at the prestigious Premier Junior level.

Numbers playing the game in Mayo have grown by 35% in the past three years alone, so it was imperative that this appointment was made to keep the game alive and growing in the county.

Colum has coached at every age level in clubs and counties in Galway, Roscommon, Leitrim, Sligo, London and Australia, and has an impressive CV. He will be getting straight to work with his senior charges, with the opening game of the league just two weeks away.
