Mayo delegation to embark on US trip amidst 'privacy concerns'

Mayo County Council has approved a visit by a number of elected members to Peekskill, New York, with an additional stopover planned in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

This decision, aimed at forging connections with Irish communities abroad during St. Patrick's Day celebrations, was made with a cross-party agreement not to publish the names of those leaving the country "due to security fears."

Instead, it was agreed that the names of the councillors will be revealed in an agenda following their return home.

This measure seeks to strike a balance between transparency and safeguarding the security of councillors' residences while they are away on official business.
