Sleet, hail and snow are on the horizon, according to the latest forecast.

Take a look below at what the weather has in store for the county.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21

Residents of Mayo are advised to prepare for a mixed bag of weather as a wet and windy start gives way to wintry showers on Wednesday.

According to MetEireann, the county will experience a blustery morning with outbreaks of rain, gradually clearing to reveal sunny spells interspersed with scattered showers. Temperatures will peak at 10 to 12 degrees Celsius before cooling down in the afternoon.

As night falls, Mayo can expect a continuation of unsettled conditions with clear spells interrupted by scattered showers. Later in the night, a heavy band of rain, possibly accompanied by thunder, will sweep in from the west before clearing once more.

As temperatures drop, some showers may turn wintry, particularly over higher ground, with a chance of sleet or snow.

Breezy southerly winds will veer south west to west, moderating as the night progresses.
