Warm tributes to Mayo priest Canon Eamon Concannon on his passing
Warm tributes are being paid to Canon Fr. Eamon Concannon, Ballyhowley, Knock, and formerly of Kilcun, Kiltimagh, whose death has taken place.
The deceased served in the parishes of Inis Óirr, Tuam, Roundfort and Burrishroole.
Fr. Eamon died peacefully at the Claremount Nursing Home, Claremorris, in his 91st year.
He is very deeply regretted by his sister-in-law Catherine Concannon (Galway), nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, Archbishop Francis Duffy, retired Archbishop Michael Neary and all the priests of the Tuam Diocese, relatives, neighbours and friends, to whom sympathy is extended.
In a tribute, Knock Parish Council stated: "We remember with fondness and gratitude Fr. Eamon (Canon) Concannon. He had recently celebrated his 90th Birthday.
"Fr Eamon ministered in the Tuam Archdiocese since his ordination in 1959.
"He was appointed Prefect to St Jarlath’s College, Tuam, and then Curate in Inis Oirr, Tuam and Roundfort and, in 1989, he was appointed Parish Priest of Newport.
"In later years, he retired to his home parish of Knock where he became a Chaplain at Knock Shrine.
"He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We extend our condolences to his family, Archbishop Francis and his brother priests. Fr Eamon was a shining example of priesthood. Requiescat in Pace."
In a tribute on the condolences page of the death notices website, RIP.ie, Fr. Tom Ryan SNA said: "Fr. Eamon was curate in Roundfort during my time in the seminary.
"He was a wise and spiritual priest, always ready with words of encouragement. He was a great person and a wonderful pastor.
"Just over 40 years ago he supervised the arrangements for my ordination and first Mass in Roundfort. He was so supportive around the occasion.
"Over the years we have remained friends, a special friendship that I greatly valued. I pray that he may rest peacefully in Heaven, in the presence of the Saviour he served so faithfully. My condolences to all who mourn him, especially his family members."
His remains will be reposing at his nephew Pearse and Colette Concannon's residence this evening (Monday) from 5 to 7 p.m. for neighbours and family.
Reposing at the Marian Funeral Home Knock (F12A726) on Tuesday from 5.30 p.m. with removal at 8 p.m. to the Church of St. John The Baptist, Knock.
Funeral Mass takes place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Knock Cemetery.
