Mayo native launches podcast dedicated to sleep

Sleep expert and health scientist Tom Coleman has launched a podcast dedicated to sleep and its impact on health and wellbeing.

The Sleep & Health Podcast aims to help people improve both their mental and physical health through the power of sleep.

Tom – who has worked with large multinationals, elite athletes, and thousands of individuals – believes sleep is the key to a vibrant and healthy life, and helps people overcome many of the challenges of the modern age.

His goal throughout the podcast series is to empower people to become better sleepers, to help audiences navigate trends in health, and help them manage, improve and prioritise their sleep while juggling a very demanding life.

Tom covers difficulties like anxiety, dependence on technology, sleep deprivation, how to deal with wake episodes, the effects of stress on sleep, sleep supplements, coping with sleep disruption during menopause, the challenges for shift workers, and more. Upcoming episodes will also offer tips to overcome the very common issue of snoring, as well as navigating the science behind dreaming.

Through the episodes, Tom explains what happens to your body and brain while you sleep, saying: “Imagine clearing out your house; you have to decide what needs to be kept, repaired or thrown out. This process is also happening to your body and mind during sleep, and issues quickly arise when this type of restoration doesn’t take place.

“With this podcast series, I aim to assure people they can improve their sleep, protect their health and live a vibrant life. They might be surprised at the simple changes that make a difference such as morning light viewing, improving diet and taking more exercise, and, crucially in this day and age, learning how to put phones and other devices away to let your mind unwind before falling asleep.”

Informed by the latest research, the podcast offers advice on repairing, resetting and balancing your sleep patterns, helping you to restore restful, consistent, quality sleep. The series will also look at how trends in health impact your sleep, covering topics such as cold therapy, caffeine, grounding and breathwork.

The Sleep & Health podcast can be accessed via www.tomcoleman.ie and on all popular podcast platforms.
