Works starting on replacing Mayo greenway fencing

A CONTRACTOR has been appointed to replace 500 metres of fencing along the Turlough greenway, starting on the town park end.

The allocation of funds from councillors GMA has allowed the works to extend beyond what was initially covered by the greenway maintenance budget, to address the more high-risk areas along the route.

Works are due to commence on Monday, March 4.

Councillor Donna Sheridan welcomed the works, saying this has been a major health and safety concern.

However, she was disappointed that it is being funded from the Castlebar Municipal District budget.

She commented: “TII are responsible for greenways and should be funding this as it is a major health and safety issue, but the Castlebar District are forced due to the lack of action by the TII. The TII lack of action in dealing with this is very concerning, they are the body in charge of greenways.”
