Mayo Young Sports Stars: Making great strides and strokes at a tender age

At just 12 years of age, Westport Golf Club's Lauren Brady was crowned Connacht Under 16 Girls’ Open champion in early August last year.

Lauren also captured the Best Under 14 (Bentley Plate) and Best Under 12 (Leonard Dodd Shield) titles at the Connacht championships, hosted by Castlebar Golf Club.

Lauren had a winning score of 47 points in the Under 16 championship, finishing ahead of two more Mayo golfers.

In April, she was part of a team of nine golfers from Westport who created history when they competed at the invitation-only 2023 Junior Clubs Home Nations national finals in the UK.

For her efforts she has been chosen as the golf category winner in The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars Awards.
