Mayo county town traffic diversions for St. Patrick's Day parade

The organisers of the Castlebar St. Patrick's Day Parade have issued a notice to the public that traffic diversions will be in place around the county town from 11.45 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m. next Sunday, March 17.

Movement through the town centre will also be restricted to allow the parade to pass through.

Diversions and closures will be implemented on a rolling basis to avoid the closure of multiple roads at once.

A garda presence will be on hand to assist the parade stewards with local diversions.

Large crowds are expected to line the parade route in the town and additional traffic is expected in Castlebar ahead of the Allianz National Football League clash between Mayo and Derry at Hastings Insurance MacHale Park at 3.45 p.m.

The Castlebar St.Patrick's Day Parade will start at 12 noon from McHale Road and follow its traditional route around town along Spencer Street, The Mall, Market Square, Chapel Street (autism sensory zone), Newline, New Antrim Street, Linenhall Street and finishing along Main Street where it will pass the viewing stand.

Due to the earlier starting time, participants are asked to gather at the usual assembly point outside the entrance to McHale Park at the top of McHale Road at 11 a.m.

The weather is expected to be fine for the event.
