Amalgamation of two south Mayo primary schools approved

Mayo TD Alan Dillon has welcomed approval for the amalgamation of two primary schools in south Mayo.

He stated: “I was delighted today to receive confirmation from the Department of Education that Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, which is located at Claremount, and Claremorris Boys National School at Kilcolman Road will amalgamate for the new school term in September 2024.

"I have been information that the school will operate on a split campus and will be known as Claremorris National School.”

Deputy Dillon said he was pleased to see the amalgamation of these two schools.

"I compliment Grace Burke, principal of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál, and Ciaran Murray, principal of Claremorris Boys National School.

"I wish the new school every success in the coming years and hope that their transition will be a smooth one.”
