Big turnout for Mayo parades thanks to favourable weather

Thousands of people turned out at over 20 parades across Mayo yesterday to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

The weather was generally favourable and the people of Ballina savoured glorious sunshine during their event to the streets of the town.

The biggest parade took place in Castlebar where 12,000 people lined the route to enjoy a parade that lasted up to 90 minutes.

The Crossmolina Parade of Lights was arguably the most eve-catching and the organisers even succeeded in getting a helicopter involved - surely a first for Mayo!

In this week's issue of The Connaught Telegraph, there is an eight-page picture special on the parades.
