Connacht Senior A Shield title for Mayo school
St. Louis Community School, Kiltimagh, have been crowned Connacht Senior A Shield winners with a 2-1 victory over Coláiste na Coiribe, Galway, in Umbro Park, Milebush, Castlebar.
The Mayo schoolboys took the lead after a period of first-half dominance through a Padraic McLoughlin header from a corner.
The second half was more evenly matched, with chances at both ends, but Christophe Tarpey increased the lead for Kiltimagh in the 31st minute after some brilliant work from Jack Morley.
Celebrations were soon cut short, however, as Daniel Hoare pulled a goal back a minute later for the Galway side.
The momentum completely swung and despite having large spells of control in the game, Kiltimagh were forced to defend wave after wave of Coláiste na Coiribe attacks.
A mixture of good game management, good goalkeeping from netminder Sean Gilmartin, poor finishing and resolute team defending marshalled by centre-back Darragh McGovern managed to keep the score at 2-1 until the final whistle, which allowed for scenes of celebration for the Kiltimagh school at the Castlebar venue yesterday afternoon.
