Election candidate signals good news for businesses in Mayo

Mayo County Council are writing to all rate players to inform them of a new grant available to businesses to help ease with the increasing costs of trading.

As part of Budget 2024, the Government signed off on a package of €257m for the Increased Cost of Business (ICOB) Grant as a vital measure for small and medium businesses.

Mayo County Council, funded through Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment (DETE), will manage the roll-out of the grant to qualifying businesses.

Eligible businesses will receive a once-off grant payment. The amount of the grant payable to eligible businesses is based on the value of the Commercial Rates bill the business received in 2023.

Hugh Rouse, a former Chamber of Commerce President, Member of Mayo county councils enterprise committee and member of Fine Gael’s Small Business and Enterprise Council welcomed this grant which covers a huge scope of businesses owners in Mayo.

Rouse, who is running in June's local elections in Ballina welcomed the news and is looking forward to more support measures to be announced shortly.

“If elected I will be promoting Ballina and Mayo as a great place to do business and would ask entrepreneurs considering locating to the area to contact me”

"Further correspondence and guidance will be issued to commercially rateable businesses in the next few weeks by Mayo county council for more information on the scheme you can click on this link.
