€262,500 for nine Mayo outdoor recreation projects

FUNDING of €262,500 has been allocated to nine trails/walking projects in County Mayo under the Outdoor Recreation Small Grants, Deputy Michael Ring has confirmed.

The allocations are as follows.

Mayo County Council, Brickens Tom's Lane Trail - drainage works (€30,000).

Mayo County Council, Old Head to Louisburgh Trail - upgrade and improve an old path that links Louisburgh town with Old Head (€30,000).

Mayo County Council, Cross Beach access - development of a safe access ramp onto Cross Beach (€30,000).

Mayo County Council, Carrowteige Loop Walks - improvements at Carrowteige Loop Walks (€30,000).

Mayo County Council, Breaffy Loop Walk, Kincon - upgrade works at Breaffy Loop walk (€30,000).

Mayo County Council, disability and fishing access at Urlaur Lake - provision of new fishing and disability access platform (€30,000).

South West Mayo Development Company CLG, Calicaun Bay Trail and Viewing Point - phase two upgrade to a universally accessible trail and enhancement works to Calicaun Bay Trail (€30,000).

South West Mayo Development Company CLG, Tochar Phadraic St. Patrick's Pilgrim Paths - upgrade and maintenance of Tochar Phadraic (€22,500).

Mayo North East Leader Partnership, Cullonaughton - improvements works to section of the Foxford Way Looped Walks (€30,000).

Said Deputy Ring: “I am delighted that this funding has been allocated to upgrade these walks and trails. Mayo has an abundance of natural amenities and established walking trails.

“The enhancement and upgrade works being funded will provide a boost to these local economies by attracting visitors and furthering Mayo’s reputation as a destination for adventure tourism.

“I would encourage everyone to make the most of what our county has to offer.”
