Mayo woman elected to esteemed Aosdána guild

Roisin Heneghan, an Erris native, has recently been elected to Aosdána, a celebrated affiliation of creative artists in Ireland.

Aosdána, founded in 1981, celebrates artists whose contributions have significantly enriched the creative landscape of Ireland, supporting members in fully dedicating themselves to their art.

Membership in Aosdána is limited to 250 living artists and is granted through peer nomination and election.

Heneghan, born in Belmullet in 1963, has an impressive educational background, having earned a Bachelor's in Architecture from University College Dublin in 1987 and a Master's in Architecture from Harvard University in 1992.

Together with Shih-Fu Peng, she co-founded Heneghan Peng architects in New York. Following their success in winning the competition for the design of Kildare County Council’s civic offices, they relocated to Ireland.

Heneghan's portfolio includes notable projects such as the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Giant’s Causeway Visitors’ Centre, and the refurbishment of the Historic Wings of the National Gallery of Ireland. Her election to Aosdána acknowledges her significant contributions to the field of architecture and the arts in Ireland.
