Mayo clubs in LLR basketball finals this afternoon

The LLR Senior Men's Cup final in Mohill this afternoon will be an all-Mayo affair.

League winners Ballina Braves booked their place in the decider with a 90-71 victory over Sligo All Stars yesterday afternoon, while Castlebar-based Mayo Meteors joined them with an 82-61 win over Donegal Town yesterday evening.

The final – which will commence at 6 p.m. – will be the fourth meeting of the local rivals this year, with Meteors hoping they can get a win this time.

When they met recently in the final of the LLR League at the De Le Salle Hall in Castlebar, the Braves were the stronger team, with Ronan McGarrity scoring 39 points and Mark Cunningham helping himself to 25.

Ballina appear to have greater strength in depth but Meteors will be eager to put in a good display ahead of their BIDL Plate final next weekend.

Before the men's final, Mayo Mustangs face Mohill Mavericks in the LLR Senior Ladies Cup final at 4 p.m. Like Braves, Mustangs are looking to complete the league and cup double. Whatever happens, it's been a good year for Mayo clubs in the LLR competitions.
