Fans urged to get behind Mayo in Oscar Traynor Cup final

GOOD luck messages have issued from the county council to Mayo's Oscar Traynor Cup team ahead of next Sunday's All-Ireland final.

The final will be played on Sunday at Umbro Park, Milebush, Castlebar, and Mayo fans are urged to get behind the team and support them on the day. Kick-off is at 1 p.m.

Councillor Mark Duffy, leading the support messages at the monthly meeting of Mayo County Council, highlighted the significance of the event - it's the first time Mayo have featured in the Oscar Traynor Cup final since 1981. And he congratulated the team and management on their achievement.

His council colleagues echoed his good wishes for the team.

Councillor Cyril Burke, whose brother featured in the squad of '81, noted how soon after this, Mayo made the move to summer soccer.

He would encourage a move back to winter football, which he felt would improve the standard in the county even more.
