Warm tributes to Mayo community doctor on his passing

The death has occurred of Dr. Alan Delaney, Doctor's Road, Ballyhaunis, and formerly of Castlerea, Co. Roscommon

He died peacefully at his home yesterday surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his wife Joan and brother Michael (Fr. Ailbe), he will be sadly missed by sons and daughters Dónal, Laura, Keith, Ursula, Aine and Alan, daughters-in-law Inese, Mary and Eimear, grandchildren Harry, Adam, Jane, Sophie, Anna, Lukass, Nancy, Maggie, Ailbe and Avery, sisters Pauline and Joan, cousins, nephews, nieces, extended family, neighbours and a large circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.

One stated: "Having worked for him in the early seventies I found him a true gentleman .

"He loved his Opel Manta car and no sick call was ever a problem to attend to.

"He was an outstanding doctor who took such good care of his patients and was passionate about his work."

Another said: "A man of great compassion who will be dearly missed by the many he served in his profession."

His remains will reposing at Donnellan's Funeral Home, Clare Street, Ballyhaunis on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass takes place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ballyhaunis, followed by burial in the local cemetery.
