Planning granted for east Mayo water scheme

MAYO County Council has approved a planning application to deliver a new water supply to 25 households in Kiltimagh.

The Cleragh Water Committee have had a long-running campaign to get connected to the local water treatment plant in Glore.

Approved is a project that will see the installation of approximately 3.5 kilometres of new water pipeline to bring a new supply to 26 households in the townlands of Attavally, Lisduff and Ballynamona.

The works include pipework crossing under the Glore River.

Local residents have been campaigning for a number of years to get connected to the public supply, currently getting their water from wells and/or streams.

An Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) report found that the proposed works are not expected to result in any negative impacts on the environment or loss of habitat and will provide significant benefits to the local area.

The planning approval has been welcomed by Councillor Adrian Forkan who said they will now be looking to lock in the funding to get the project completed before the summer is out.
