John Waters announces candidacy for European Parliament

Former Irish Times columnist John Waters has declared his candidacy for the European Parliament in the Midlands-North-West constituency.

In a statement outlining his core values, Waters emphasised his commitment to protecting life "from conception to natural death" and making legislation "family-friendly" in line with the Irish constitution. He also pledged to ensure that EU and Dáil Éireann legislation is relevant and effective for all constituents, advocating for balanced regional development.

Waters positioned himself as a voice for Irish citizens who feel marginalised by what he perceives as contempt from those in power.

He expressed concern over what he termed "Woke insanity" and criticised climate change narratives that he believes threaten Ireland's agricultural sector and sovereignty.

"Irish people must cease being passive spectators," Waters urged. "It's time to stall the juggernaut of evil looming over our beautiful island."

With a sense of duty fuelled by his convictions, Waters hopes to bring attention to what he sees as pressing issues on European stages in Brussels and Strasbourg, with the support of his constituents.
