Lovely tributes to popular Mayo man Billy McDonnell on his passing

The death of Billy McDonnell, Annagh, Castlebar, has evoked an immense sense of loss in the community.

A much-loved and respected personality who was involved in the building trade for many years, he died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.

He is sadly missed by his wife Patsy, sons Paul and William, daughter Karrie, brothers Sean and Jimmy, sisters Kathleen and Pauline, granddaughters Lisa, Laura, Lexi, Hollie and Alana, grandson Jack, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbours and his many many friends, to whom sympathy is extended.

Billy was predeceased by his parents Paddy and Delia and sister Marion.

Tributes are being paid to the deceased on social media.

"Billy was a gentleman - kind, obliging, knowledgeable and he had an excellent recall of places, times and events," one stated.

"He was most obliging and courteous" another said.

"Billy was part of the gang here at Roadstone and will be sadly missed, such a gentleman a great character," a further tribute observed.

His remains will be reposing at his residence (F23 Y338) on Saturday evening from 4 to 7 p.m.

Prayer service takes place on Sunday at 12 noon followed by removal by boat to Islandeady Cemetery for burial.
