Team from Mayo school becomes Connaught chess champions

At the start of February, Brackloon NS entered four teams – The Top Trees, The Little Acorns, The Chestnuts and The Oaks – into the Féile Fichille, which took place in the TF Royal Theatre, Castlebar.

The Top Trees came second in Mayo and qualified to the Comórtas Fichille, which was held at the Ard Rí House Hotel in Tuam on April 9.

Twenty-teams of eight from all over Connaught participated in the Comórtas Fichille, with 160 students playing chess on the day.

Once all the chess games had been played and the officials had added up all the points, The Top Trees were delighted to be awarded overall first place in Connaught!
